Alongside his art practice, Andrew Agutos has spent years as a designer working for various American fashion brands such as adidas, Victoriaβs Secret, Guess? Jeans and kate spade new york. His work includes concepting for advertising campaigns, branding, all forms of digital content and sometimes assisting on set with film photography.
Working with these images everyday found undeniable influence in his approach to painting. He has shot polaroids which were then directly painted on or used as references for portraits. He has had access to archival vitrine displaysβprints from notable fashion photographers, which he then painted on.
Today, he extends this intervention of fashion imagery by peeling posters off the streets of Paris then mounting them on wooden panels serving as the starting point for new paintings.
