ANDREW AGUTOS accumulates images over time, building visual systems shaped by poetic language, where meaning shifts between recognition and abstraction.
Gathered through intuitive and unstructured methods, motifs and references are filtered from high-density metropolitan environments and ecosystems of image production, including iconography and fashion, operating within the frameworks of rap logic and internet culture. They are dissected across works and mediums, repurposed in altered snippets and connected between formats.
Poetic thinking is embedded as a mode of understanding and reflection, entering into a reciprocal relationship with image creation. At times the painting catalyzes a written response; at others, language redirects the image. This exchange reconfigures the legibility of the work.
